Tennessee Is Acting Like a Real State By Suing the Federal Government
Apr 24, 2020 by David Fowler
Earlier this week I read a friend-of-the-court brief prepared by my friend Joanne Bregman. The brief was submitted to the United States Supreme Court on behalf of Eagle Forum of Tennessee, run by my friend, Bobbie Patray, and Eagle Forum nationally. One particular thing Ms. Bregman wrote made me think of the Scotsman William Wallace at Stirling Bridge and the patriots at Concord Bridge, where battles for freedom were won. It made me want to grab a kilt and musket and head to the halls of Congress and then the Supreme Court’s chambers!
Do Refugee Opponents, Political Conservatives, and Evangelicals Really Want to ‘Save’ America?
Jan 10, 2020 by David Fowler
Last week I wrote about the governor’s decision regarding refugee resettlement in relation to Congressman Mark Green’s national commentary that only federalism could “save America.” I said I didn’t think Tennessee’s elected officials or evangelicals understood the breadth of that challenge. Something I did this week tells me we will soon find out if they do. It has been a gut check for me.
What to Make of Congressman Green’s Prescription for Saving America
Jan 3, 2020 by David Fowler
On January 1, the U.S. representative from Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, Mark Green, penned an editorial in which he said, “I’m more convinced than ever that the only thing that will save America is what started America: Federalism.” He is mostly right, but where he is right, Tennessee’s elected officials and Tennessee’s evangelicals better understand the breadth of?his challenge to assert the principle of dual sovereigns embodied in federalism. I’m not sure they really do.
