Next Tuesday, the language for Governor Lee’s long-awaited abortion legislation will be released, and the bill, Senate Bill 2196, will be first on the Senate Judiciary’s Calendar for that day.

At a press conference in January, Gov. Lee said the bill would include a number of new laws directed at abortion. The bill is supposed to address ultrasounds, ask the courts which, if any, of the various abortion restrictions related to fetal development they would accept, and prohibit abortions for reasons related to sex, ethnicity, and fetal disabilities.

The Rule of Law Life Act (SB 1780) and SB 1236, which was the subject of the Senate Judiciary’s hearings this past summer, will occupy the 10th and 11th positions on the calendar, respectively.
