Governor Lee Puts Forth Own Abortion Bill

On Thursday Governor Bill Lee held a news conference at the Tennessee Capitol to announce his own “comprehensive” abortion legislation. Although language of the bill has not yet been finalized, according to the press release issued by his office, the bill will include provisions to prohibit abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, require the mother to undergo an ultrasound prior to the abortion, and prohibit abortions motivated by the race, sex, or health or disability diagnosis of the unborn child.

We appreciate and share the governor’s passion for the sanctity of life. We also appreciate the offer he has made for us to provide input on the matter, and look forward to working with him and the legislature toward our shared goal of defending life at every stage.
